There are a few items on my daily prayer list that extremely frustrate me. They are situations, where the truth seems obvious to me, but falsehood reigns and seems to get its way. Situations where falsehoods running amuck impact my life, my family's life, and the lives of 1,000s if not millions of people in the world.
How do such falsehoods get pushed back? How do such falsehoods get overturned? How do such falsehoods give way to the truth?
There are, of course, human touches of how falsehoods end up being dealt with. But ultimately, they are only dissipated by the light of truth shining on them and overwhelming them. And that light is God.
Jesus, God revealed in flesh, is the light of the world. Nothing is hidden from him. No darkness can withstand his light. The promise we have in Jesus is that death - the ultimate form of darkness - does not have the last word.
On this side of life, we petition that the darkness of the falsehoods that surrounds us and overpower us would be dispelled by the light of God's truth. We petition that those involved in perpetuating falsehood would be found out and the truth exposed by the light of God. And even if they don't on this side of life, we have the hope that when the restoration of all things at Christ's return happens, that the darkness will forever be dispelled by the light of God's reign over all.
As you encounter frustrating situations where the darkness of falsehood seems to be getting its way, I invite you to join me in praying, "Lord, may the light of your truth dispel the darkness of falsehood, as only you can do."
