Sorry Rocky Mozell

How do you explain the invisible, Almighty God to an eight year old? Well....let's see. He is big...like the sky. He is strong like the Hulk. He is smart like  a computer.

We are limited in our explanation about the God who has no limits. We talk about what we know.  We compare. It is the best we can do. By doing so, Mark Batterson says, "We end up with a God that is  a little bigger, a little better, a little stronger and a little wiser than we are. The problem with thinking this way is that it makes God too small." (What is God Really Like? G. Groeschel, P.33)

The readings this week through the book of Isaiah give us a clear view of the majesty and power of the God of the Bible. Here's small sample:

He holds the dust of the earth in a basket.  To him the nations are like a drop in a bucket. He reduces the rulers of this world to nothing. He brings out the stars and calls them each by name. (Sorry Rocky Mozell!) He is everlasting. He does not grow tired or weary. He needs no adviser. He is the first and the last. He made all things....he alone stretched out the heavens and spread the earth out by himself.

God is mighty. Any questions?

If you have a God with such might in your corner then problems become opportunities for him  to shine.

There is a second part. God is great and he is for us!

Fear not, I have redeemed you. I have summoned you by name and you are mine. When you pass through the waters I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.  (Isaiah 43:1-7)

We live in a world of craziness. There are many things to fear but God says, fear not. This mighty, incomparable God is for us.

When our view of God is Bible based we see the world as His oyster. He is large and in charge. He is not surprised by any issues, he is not intimidated by anyone. He can split the sea with a word and can put streams in the desert.

He is mighty and he is for you. That's what the Bible says.

Be strong and courageous, MB
