Jesus is always ready to respond.

Have you ever hesitated to ding the bell at a help desk? Maybe you didn’t want to be a bother. Maybe you assumed whoever’s in charge was busy. That’s how many of us feel about God sometimes—unsure if He’s paying attention, wondering if our concerns are even worth His time.

But Matthew 9:18–34 tells a different story.

In this passage, Jesus is repeatedly interrupted—by a desperate father, a suffering woman, two blind men, and a demon-oppressed man. None of these interruptions are brushed off. Jesus never says, “Hold on” or “Get in line.” Instead, He responds. Every time.

These aren't just stories of healing. They are revelations of God's heart. Each encounter shows that Jesus—God in the flesh—is always ready to respond. Jesus responds to each with compassion and power. No one is too small. No one too far gone. No one ignored.

As highlighted this past Sunday, “Jesus shows us that God is always ready to respond.” Whether your story feels messy, mundane, or monumental, the God we see in Jesus is not distant or disinterested—He’s present, active, and full of care.

Reflection Questions:

  1. Who do you relate to most in these stories—someone desperate, overlooked, doubting, or stuck?

  2. What are the ways you’ve felt like God might be “too busy” or “too distant” to care about your needs?

  3. How do these moments in Jesus' life challenge or change your view of how God sees you?

  4. Where do you need to trust again—maybe for the first time or the 10,000th time—that Jesus is present, active, and concerned about you?

  5. What next step might God be inviting you to take today— faith, surrender, or maybe uniting your faith to Jesus for the first time in baptism (set up a time to get baptized)?

This Sunday, we’ll reflect further from the life of Jesus in Matthew 9:35–10:23. I hope you’ll join us!

Equip: Youth, 6-12th Grades (on Sunday Mornings)

Students in grades 6–12 have a new opportunity! Each Sunday, when all the kids are dismissed during the worship service, students are invited to meet in the church library for a discipleship group just for them. An adult leader will help guide the time, but we’re trusting the Holy Spirit to be the ultimate teacher—and the Bible will be our main focus. We’re excited for this new experience and hope it helps our students step more fully into the abundant life Jesus offers.
